Look, we love walks as much as the next guy, but sometimes we all need a little R&R- and your dog is no exception. Staring intently at a chicken sandwich that isn't yours is hard work! To pamper both you and your pooch, plan a day of doing nothing together. Put on your sweats and let your dog do the same.
This Care Bear-themed hoodie is extra cozy and totally fits the weekend vibe.
Those of us who like beds better than people might like this number even better.
When it's really feeling too people-y outside, there's always the option of joining the Anti-Social Puppy Club, too!
After a long day of binge-watching your favorite Netflix series, together, why not give your dog a well-deserved massage? Sure, you probably pet him all the time, but dog massages have a long list of health benefits.
To name a few...
-
Dogs that get regular massages exhibit a reduction in stress and anxiety, as well as a less reactive temperament.
-
When done correctly, massage can reduce inflammation and promote healing after an injury, like a strain or sprain.
-
Massage reduces pain from arthritis and other chronic inflammatory conditions.
-
It also promotes overall health and vitality. Massages lower blood pressure, improve circulation, boosts immune and digestive health, and encourages deep breathing. Basically, massages are as good for dogs as they are for us.
- Last but not least, it strengthens the bond you share. Just like people, dogs thrive off love and care. The more time you spend together, the happier your dog will be! Your pup might like it so much that massages earn a permanent place on your list of favorite things to do together.
Here's How to Do It
First, start when your dog is nice and calm. Snuggling up on the couch is a great start. From there, gently pet your dog from head to tail to get him used to the feeling.
Next, start rubbing your dog's head in small, circular motions. Behind the ears is a great place to start. Then, continue the massage slowly, spending time massaging your dog's neck, shoulders, and back, all the way down to the base of the tail.
If your dog will allow it, massage each of his legs using a gentle, repetitive pulling motion, kneading with your thumbs as you go. Most dogs don't like their paws being touched directly, so feel free to skip a paw massage if they're not into it!
To finish the massage experience, follow your dog's lead. End with some gentle pets along his back, some scritchy scratchies behind his ears, or best of all, a belly rub.
That's all there is to it! What does your dog do to relax? Let us know in the comments!
